Scrimmage set for Dec 22 in Kimball Junction

We have been asked to take our Team Utah squad on the road for an indoor scrimmage Saturday morning at the Basin Recreation facility in Kimball Junction. The opponent is the a crew of players currently enrolled in the "Shread it" lacrosse camp offered by Tribal West Lacrosse. Attendees including numerous players from eastern zip codes as well as some fine local prospects. It should be a fun opportunity.

The scrimmagwe will take place from 10-noon at the Basin Recreation indoor facility located just off of I-80 in Kimbal Junction. All players will need to sign in as you enter the facility . See the web site for driving directions.

http://www.basinrecreation.com/reccenter.html

All TU players should bring their reversible penny. The normal practice at the University of Utah Eccles Fieldhouse will not be run simultaneously. If you are unable to make the trip to PC, please remember that next weekend (12/29), our session shifts to the 3-5 PM block of time. We will have numerous TU alumni on hand to conduct "positon specific" clinics and to talk about their experiences making the jump to college lacrosse.

Dec 15 Update

We are practicing from 10-12:00 noon in the UU facility on the 15th. There was not enough interest in the San Deigo Tourney in January so that trip has been cancelled.

We will be changing our team assignemnts in January to create a "Varsity" squad and a "Rising Star " squad. This format is similar to most of the summer tournaments formats. The main difference is the "Varsity team is our most competitve squad and includes current seniors. The "Rising Star squad is restricted to underclassmen.

We will be doing evaluations of players over the next four practices and will identify these rosters in Mid January. These teams will each compete in two tourneys this Summer.
Rising Star: Vail June 17-20 & Park City June 26-28.
Varsity: Park City June 23-25, Vail June 29-July 2.

Update for Tuesday 12/4

Wednesday's Scrimmage is Cancelled - The snow has not cleared sufficiently to allow our scrimmage at Westminster College tomorrow, (12/5). Good luck this weekend boys.

General Progress Report: Great turnout and effort last Saturday.

Offense: Progress is evident on the triangle offense with good off-ball movement and crisper passing. We're getting better at being "dangerous without the ball".

Defense: We are seeing a lot of good poke and lift checks. These allow you to disrupt the ball exchanges without sacrificing body position, a rare skill. We still need to emphasize body position and footwork when arriving "on-ball". Remember we shade the ball-carrier to control the movement of the ball.

Next Practice: All U-17 & U-19 players will have practice at 10:00 AM Saturday at the UU indoor facility at 640 Guardsman Way.

Wednesday Scrimmages, 11/28 & 12/5

In addition to our normal Saturday practice we will do two full-field scrimmages to get our Seattle squad ready for their trip. They will be held at Westminster College, Wednesday 11/28 and 12/5 at 3:30 PM. We will also invite some fo the freshmen players from Westminster to join us in the fun. Should be a fast and fun pace and will be just what our boys need to get some PT together before heading to WA.

Please e-mail me (mgoodhand@westminstercollege.edu) and provide your name, position and session you intend to attend. (You may attend both if desired). Up to 100 players have asked to be part of this event and they will have to observe from outside as TU has been given the honor to take the field for the demonstrations. Check the ULA web site for the bio's on these coaches/Pro Players. They have accomplished many great things in this sport.

First Practice

We have had a great response with 95% of our slots being accepted. Our first practice is Saturday, Sept 29 at 2:00 PM at Buttercup Park in Sandy. It will start at 2:00 PM sharp, so please be suited up at ready to go at that time. We have assembled a great staff for the fall season and are eager to get started.

Buttercup Park is the same location as the first tryout on Sept 15. It's approximately 10075 South and 1500 East in Sandy. (From the Sandy library on 1300 East, go east to the flashing light, take a left. Then take an immediate right and you are just a block away.) Don't forget to bring water and a reversible penny as our uniforms will not be in this week.

Next week, Oct 6th we will again be practicing at BC Park at 2:00 PM. The week following, (10/13), we will participate in a 7v7 tournament at Westminster College.

Please remember to e-mail me if you have to miss an event. mgoodhand@westminstercollege.edu Failure to keep us in the loop when you know you will miss an event could result in your being removed from the team roster.

It's going to be a fun year! Go Swarm!

Off and Running

WOW! What a great tryout! After two weekends of watching some top talent we have struggled thru the hardest part of the job....making the cuts.

For those selected as a Team Utah 2008 member...Congratulations! Please confirm you slot by Wednesday (9/26/07) by paying your uniform and fall operations fees online with Active.com. We are excited about the season ahead. Come ready to take your game to a new level.

For those who missed the cut....STAND-BY! We will call you if any of the current "primary" members change their mind. Also, we may need to add players if injuries or other causes reduce the size of our rosters later this season. We'll call you or we may have a supplemental tryout later in the year. Please stay tuned.
