Time to kick off the new year

Team Utah Division I tryouts will be held at Westminster College September 6th and 13th. Division I refers to players who will be eligible for U-17 and U-19 tournaments during the course of the 2008-09 school year. While tournament eligibility rules sometimes vary from event to event, we define U-17 as players of birth year 1992 or later and U-19 as players who are of birth year 1990 and 1991. Details on tryouts are as follows:
Site: Dumke Field, Westminster College 1840 S. 1300 East SLC, UT 84105
Time: (Check-in begins at 4:30PM.)
Important Notes:
1. NO lacrosse balls allowed in the facility until the preceding soccer event has concluded and the soccer fans/players have cleared the facility. technically we don't have the field until 5:00 PM so please don't interfere with the group ahead of us in any way.
2. Players are expected to get warmed up on their own prior to the scrimmage. (Goalies included)
3. Players from previous Team Utah squads will be expected to wear their TU penny, all new players will be assigned a penny at check in. We are expecting a large turnout, if you have a blue and white penny with a number on it, you should bring it along in the event we run out of "loaners."
4. Proof of current USL membership is required. A computer printout from the USL website, a magazine label with your name, ID and expiration date or a membership card will confirm this for us.
5. All players must complete a Westminster College Liability Release form prior to participating. If you are younger than 18 it must be signed by a parent or guardian too. This form is download able from the Team Utah website.
6.We do not allow Sports Drinks on the field because of the sugars that are in them and potential for spills to create an unhealthy situation with bacteria on the grass surface. Please don't bring sodas or sports drink out of the stands.

Snow removeal a concern for Saturday 2/9

The Westminster College field is slowly getting cleared of snow. It is not yet known whether it will be in playing condition in time for our afternoon scrimmage this weekend. (Sat 3:30 PM)

I will post a final decision on this site by 9:00 PM Friday night. If we don't go outside plan on an 11:00 AM start indoors at the U.

Satruday Feb 9th scrimmage

All Team Utah HS players will be included in our scrimmage this Saturday (2/9)at Westminster College's Dumke Field. The scrimmage will start at 3:30 PM and will follow a Westminster College / USU scrimmage which begins at 1:00 PM. Bring your reversible and your game jersey.

Snow removal may be an issue. Please refer back to this site for an update. The 10:00 AM session will not be held unless the WC field is not playable. In this case we will plan on letting the U-13/U-15 have the entire facility form 10:00-11:00 AM and then conduct our scrimmage from 11:00 AM - 1:00 PM indoors at the U.

Scrimmage set for Dec 22 in Kimball Junction

We have been asked to take our Team Utah squad on the road for an indoor scrimmage Saturday morning at the Basin Recreation facility in Kimball Junction. The opponent is the a crew of players currently enrolled in the "Shread it" lacrosse camp offered by Tribal West Lacrosse. Attendees including numerous players from eastern zip codes as well as some fine local prospects. It should be a fun opportunity.

The scrimmagwe will take place from 10-noon at the Basin Recreation indoor facility located just off of I-80 in Kimbal Junction. All players will need to sign in as you enter the facility . See the web site for driving directions.

http://www.basinrecreation.com/reccenter.html

All TU players should bring their reversible penny. The normal practice at the University of Utah Eccles Fieldhouse will not be run simultaneously. If you are unable to make the trip to PC, please remember that next weekend (12/29), our session shifts to the 3-5 PM block of time. Dec 15 Update

We are practicing from 10-12:00 noon in the UU facility on the 15th. There was not enough interest in the San Deigo Tourney in January so that trip has been cancelled.

We will be changing our team assignemnts in January to create a "Varsity" squad and a "Rising Star " squad. This format is similar to most of the summer tournaments formats. The main difference is the "Varsity team is our most competitve squad and includes current seniors. The "Rising Star squad is restricted to underclassmen.

We will be doing evaluations of players over the next four practices and will identify these rosters in Mid January. These teams will each compete in two tourneys this Summer.
Rising Star: Vail June 17-20 & Park City June 26-28.
Varsity: Park City June 23-25, Vail June 29-July 2.

Update for Tuesday 12/4

Wednesday's Scrimmage is Cancelled - The snow has not cleared sufficiently to allow our scrimmage at Westminster College tomorrow, (12/5). Good luck this weekend boys.

General Progress Report: Great turnout and effort last Saturday.

Offense: Progress is evident on the triangle offense with good off-ball movement and crisper passing. We're getting better at being "dangerous without the ball".

Defense: We are seeing a lot of good poke and lift checks. These allow you to disrupt the ball exchanges without sacrificing body position, a rare skill. We still need to emphasize body position and footwork when arriving "on-ball". Remember we shade the ball-carrier to control the movement of the ball.

Next Practice: All U-17 & U-19 players will have practice at 10:00 AM Saturday at the UU indoor facility at 640 Guardsman Way.

Wednesday Scrimmages, 11/28 & 12/5

In addition to our normal Saturday practice we will do two full-field scrimmages to get our Seattle squad ready for their trip. They will be held at Westminster College, Wednesday 11/28 and 12/5 at 3:30 PM. We will also invite some fo the freshmen players from Westminster to join us in the fun. Should be a fast and fun pace and will be just what our boys need to get some PT together before heading to WA.
